By this post I have declared my way to creating tourist business for foreigners in Ukraine and in my city. All the articles eventually will be published on my web page Ukraine for traveler. I am going to create web page named free english walking tour in Rivne, kind of.
Now a bit about the city I am living.
First reference.
First mention of Rivne dated by 1283 (twelve eighty-three) as a town of Galycko-Volynskiy princedom. However local archaeologists believe that city 250 (two hundred fifty) years older. During excavations in city were found remnants of building that date by X (tenth) century. That is an evidence that Rivne has more than thousand yeas. In "Story of the passing years" monk Nestor wrote that here had lived ancient Slavic tribes called Volhynians.
Name of the city.
There are several version of name of city origin. First one is that name "Rivne" (very resembled to flat, smooth, even) appeared because city situated on the flat area. Another version says that name of the city derived from the Ukrainian word "riv" that means ditch, moat or trench. Actually Rivne had a castle that was surrounded by ditch that was filled with water.
At 1340 (thirteen forty) territory of the town became part of the Lithuanian principality and was under subordination of Lutsk city.
At 1495 (fourteen ninety five) to Rivne was given Magdeburg right.
At 1500 (fifteen hundred) town was given right to have annual fair.
At 1518 (fifteen eighteen) Ostrozhski princes became owner of the town. They were owner of the town till 1621 (sixteen twenty one). Under Ostrozhski princes Rivne turned into more important town.
At 1548 (fifteen forty eight) here was built Roman catholic church and had been rebuilt whole castle.
At 1569 (fifteen sixty nine) Rivne became part of the Poland. After this Rivne suffered from Tatar's forey who sack, plunder and burn town. But shortly town was renewed. And at 1575 (fifteen seventy five) there were at least 543 (five hundred forty three) houses and buildings. During the next centuries Rinve was destroyed and restored several time.
At 1750 (seventeen fifty) development of the city began. At that year in town there were numbered 683 (six hundred eighty three) houses and buildings. There were mill and sawmill.
At 1756 (fifteen fifty six) in town was built Holly Dominion church and Roman catholic church.
Shortly afterwards Józef Lubomirski who became the new owner of the town continued to rebuild castle. He turned it into a beautiful palace. Constantin Villani, Italian painter adorned its walls and soffites with frescoes. The pond was made deeper and was cleaned. At the palace's garden were placed statues, places for the game and carousels.
