During last several years quantity of coffee-shops in Rivne grew from day to day. Coffee is a drug, but very specific drug. Its consumption doesn't lead to antisocial behaviour. People don't kill each other for coffee and don't extort money from other people for cup of coffee. But coffee drinker has kind of withdrawal however not painful. I'd said rather sleepy. So if you are coffee drinker and fate has willed you be in Rivne let's look at the different Rivne's hot spot and smell the air.
Coffee for ones is a drug, for others is just beverage, but for small group of people it is a way to show themselves. That's why they don't drink coffee in the their small and narrow kitchens or busy and boisterous offices, but spend time and money to visit the coffee-shop. They are powerful army of investors that nourish development of coffee-shop business in Rivne.
What do you want?
Ukrainian isn't English speaking country so you probably will have some communicative problem even when you want to order cup of coffee. I bet and believe that after several year problem will be solved, because more and more pupils have finished classes with enhanced English. But in 2014 you have to have someone who will help you with our menus, because they are preferably in Ukrainian. Don't forget Rivne isn't tourist city.
Well then we have two main group of coffee: Robusta and Arabica. I drink coffee as a drug, so I am not expert in coffee. All I know that Robusta is more stronger and cheaper. Arabica is more flavoured and have plenty of flavour. I always order Robusta, and never Arabica, and I believe that after you order Arabica coffee, you should be ready for another question what kind of it do you want. If you want to show yourself as rich, or at least not pour, or fun of good coffee, or coffee expert-connoiseur order Arabica without hesitation.
Next question is how many of coffee do you want. I don't find term "Americano" in my vocabulary. But be sure in Rivne that way we divide volume of the cup. Espresso is small cup, Americano is big cup. That's difference. My brother in law always mock at Americano drinker, because he believes that water kills coffee and its flavour. Sometimes shop assistance doesn't ask about volume of cup and prepare espresso by default, if you don't mention the other.
One more question before the final coffee. Do you want to drink on-the-run or before the table. Smoker of cigarette prefer paper or plastic cup, because if tables are inside the coffee shop, you can't smoke in the public place. Coffee shop is a public place. Terrace steps are also public place, but you can smoke there, at least now. Neither Ukrainian police nor ordinary people say you something. We have plenty of problem besides smoking on the street, for example war and separatists on the East, but I sincerely hope that one day we resolve smoking on the street as well. So return to our question you can cup or glass. I am not sure that every shop assistant will understand you at once but you should be ready to persuade them in the right way.
